COLLECTION VI

My years of living in Washington, DC during the late 80’s and early 90’s were at the time of a growing homeless population.  I couldn’t help but think of the contrast between the legislators riding to work in their chauffeured limos, and the families struggling to stay alive by huddling in doorways or in makeshift shelters under highway overpasses.  I was resuming my interest in painting and taking classes at The Corcoran Museum School. I soon found myself recycling lots of discarded materials/objects to use in my new body of work.  I bought old handwritten ledger books and reused the aging papers to line my canvases. I was given my first solo exhibition at The Addison Ripley Gallery in DC that launched my brand new career.
